ABSTRACT

With the sibling complex as a point of departure, Harriet Wolfe explores a developmental and psychodynamic understanding of the relationships among psychoanalytic groups (including small work groups, small and large societies, as well as national and international organizations). Addressing the current sociopolitical trend toward nationalist politics, among other global crises, this chapter investigates the prevalent tensions within the current analytic collective and considers their implications for the interpersonal relationships among psychoanalysts. With reference to the author’s own experience of navigating institutional conflict, the tools by which to address the challenges facing the psychoanalytic profession are brought forth.
