ABSTRACT

The interior steps of the psychoanalyst in training – the interpersonal relations and communities that are formed during those experiences – have complex and significant consequences for the psychoanalyst’s subsequent social coexistence within their scientific, professional and educational community. Stefano Bolognini reflects on his own experiences to understand the correspondence between familial and institutional relationships, and pays particular attention to the analogous link between the internal family of an analyst’s childhood and their “analytic family”. Departing from a focus on the complex, multi-functional role of the trainee’s personal analyst, Bolognini sets out a quadripartite training model that will benefit the future associative life and creativity of the analyst.
