ABSTRACT

In previous chapters, you have learned that the use of eHealth technologies to create new services requires human-centred design and participatory development processes in order to satisfy the needs of the various stakeholders. This chapter is about the deployment and implementation of these new eHealth services in the day-to-day practice of healthcare organizations. Managers of healthcare organizations (or independent healthcare providers) have to make a number of ‘business’ decisions before an eHealth technology can be used. They have to select a supplier where they buy the eHealth technologies, get facilities to train employees, set up maintenance, and take care of certificates to allow for the provision of services. The eHealth technology may require new kinds of employees, e.g., for IT and data management. All these decisions come with investments and various operational costs.
