ABSTRACT

This chapter links with the British Psychological Society’s area of Well-being and Work. It provides an overview of what mindfulness is and how it contributes to workplace well-being. Relevant core scientific concepts are presented including the mechanisms of action that drive the effectiveness of mindfulness for people at work and several different workplace-relevant mindfulness literatures. In addition, the current scientific debates in mindfulness at work are considered alongside suggestions for future mindfulness research and practice. The chapter concludes with a set of practical recommendations for applying mindfulness at work, depending on the specific target outcome.
