ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines topics that are currently attracting attention in contemporary organisational psychology research and practice. Focused predominantly on the British Psychological Society’s areas of work design, organisational change and organisational development, the chapter begins by outlining some of the wider economic and social context currently influencing organisations and work. This includes the increased variation in when and where people work, the impact of technology and the continuing need to improve equity and inclusion. The chapter also discusses the rise in critical organisational psychology research before offering a brief introduction to specific topics of research relating directly and indirectly to the contextual themes, including remote and hybrid work, technology, responsible business and communication in teams and organisations. The chapter closes with reflections on the direction of future developments in research and practice.
