ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author attends to the companion texts (e.g., texts, art, nature, and other entities) that constitute her scholarly ensemble of life. A scholarly ensemble of a life is a loose grouping of objects (e.g., research projects, articles, teaching artifacts, and companion texts) that help create academic work and a scholarly self. Here, she focuses on the multimodal and transdisciplinary companion texts by sharing a series of vignettes. These vignettes offer how these texts allow her to think beyond herself and engage in practices that aim to open different ways of living for herself, her students, and others. She encourages other researchers to examine the companion texts of their lives to see their transdisciplinary and transformative power to create new ideas.
