ABSTRACT

This chapter summarises the development of the application of EC/EU antitrust law to sport over a 40-year period (1982–2022) to show the degree of maturation which it has reached so far. In 2022–2023, the Court of Justice of the European Union will decide three high-level sports cases (International Skating Union, European Superleague and Royal Antwerp FC) which are likely to provide important guidance in this area, with implications for sports governance.
