ABSTRACT

This chapter will draw attention to a perspective that too often has been forgotten or under-communicated when encountering humans in times of crises – clients’ spirituality. This part of life can be a help and support, a lifeline in the middle of storms and a way to find direction from a source of strength and growth. Spirituality as security and protection will be supported by stories from clients in research and practice. The chapter goes into the phenomenon of spirituality connected to concepts like communication and resonance. Finally, a substantial theory of practice developed from a PhD study will be presented, named: “A map of spiritual and existential literacy”. Developing spiritual and existential literacy as therapists may help to create safe therapeutic meetings where clients’ spiritual lives can take place.
