ABSTRACT

This chapter is devoted to a sense of security in the context of polyamorous relationships. Polyamorous relationships challenge the limitations of current thinking about safety and security. From an attachment theory perspective, safety is the foundation of a relationship, allowing people in romantic relationships to satisfy their attachment needs and feel safe. This chapter poses the question of what it means to feel safe in a polyamorous relationship and whether reflecting on this issue can bring a deeper understanding of psychological security.

The starting point for this consideration of security is the contemporary theory of attachment. However, this exploration will go beyond its theoretical framework in search of new ways of understanding security.
