ABSTRACT

Hans-Jürgen Burchardt and Jochen Kemner conducted an interview between Olaf Kaltmeier and Edgardo Lander concerning their contributions to the volume. The first question asks about the relationship between ecological and social crises. Lander finds them to be inextricably linked. Kaltmeier agrees to name the present social problem a refeudal cosmocracy. The second question asks about the reason for the ineffectiveness of grassroots movements. Kaltmeier analyzes the links between the billionaire class and the pink tide governments, whereas Lander focuses on the Leninist tradition of the left and links to caudillismo as well as extractivism in his response. The penultimate question of the interview asks about the current economic model focused on the extraction and possible transformations. Lander answers through the lens of U.S. intervention and neoliberalism, and Kaltmeier, also framing his contextualization of the problem through neoliberalism, offers the alternative of the care economy as a place of hope for the future. The final questions and response look at analyzing the current climate in the wake of the pandemic, regarding state intervention, and the possibilities of a second pink tide in Latin America.
