Conclusion

This chapter asks the question of whether modern African states with their serious economic challenges need to maintain expensive navies? As such, it discusses the military, law enforcement, and diplomatic roles of African navies. The chapter ends with a call for more research and comparative studies on the purpose and design of “small navies” for African coastal states.
