ABSTRACT
Histoire croisee method developed out of Franco-German cultural transfer research, which itself initially arose primarily in distinction from the methods of cultural comparison. The core idea of both histoire croisee and entangled history is to study cultures not as clearly demarcated entities, or as (mostly dual) relational structures between which largely linear transfer processes take place, but as entities intertwined on a variety of levels. In migration situations, the complexity of the object of research is particularly obvious; they are considered situations that can only be understood and interpreted by confronting different points of view, standards of analysis, and levels of focus. Through their musical and cultural socialization, scholars are integrated into this fabric, which in turn gives rise to different research constellations that can be confronted with one another.
