ABSTRACT
Consular coordination occurs within a context of economic globalization, the restructuring of social space due to ongoing migratory flows, interdependency among states, and the emergence of non-state actors. Therefore, the challenges and opportunities for the Mexican community in the United States demand a more sophisticated form of consular coordination of a strategic nature. To that end, we shall study two contemporary examples of protecting Mexicans in the United States: the SB1070 law in Arizona and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). In the current context of disapproval and discrediting of the Mexican diaspora in the United States, the protective actions taken by the Mexican consular network take on greater relevance and it becomes necessary to use all the consular tools to improve the condition of Mexican migrants in the United States and in the world.
