ABSTRACT

Technology has changed the way we work, how we communicate with each other, and how we learn. Not only are new technologies emerging every day, but older technologies are also being combined in new ways. Savvy educators stay abreast of the latest technology and how to effectively integrate it into their students’ learning experiences. This chapter explores the opportunities for integrating technology within teaching and learning in the classroom. Within a context of developing, selecting, and implementing content-based curriculum for advanced learners, such as curriculum developed under the Integrated Curriculum Model, technology presents (a) extensive sources for access to more advanced content; (b) contexts for developing critical and creative thinking skills; and (c) tools for constructing and sharing sophisticated products. Technology also supports exploration of key concepts and their interdisciplinary applications, providing students a better vantage point from which to recognize those concepts and a broader canvas on which to convey their understandings.
