ABSTRACT

The final chapter of the book focuses on issues of implementation in light of research evidence on what works in a curriculum for the gifted. It highlights the leadership needs and resources necessary for successful implementation of Integrated Curriculum Model curriculum in school settings and the barriers that need to be overcome. It also features what has worked in the implementation of this curriculum through voices from the field, practitioners who have taught and administered this curriculum for many years. Key themes from these voices include the power of the curriculum to engage and motivate gifted learners – the capacity to spark student interest in the pursuit of new learning. Other themes featured in this section of the chapter focus on the benefits of the curriculum for meaningful student learning, the importance of strong and consistent design features, and the integrated power of curriculum, instruction, and assessment working together. The chapter concludes with a plea for developing a system of learning that allows for continued development and use of innovative curriculum that serves to benefit all learners.
