ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to make an initial approach to the field of feminist disability studies in Latin America through a review of literature and interviews with academics who research disability from a feminist perspective. In this chapter, we analyse: (a) how feminist disability studies are related to feminisms, (b) the strategies developed by academics to counteract hegemonic and colonial ways of building knowledge and connecting with communities and (c) how academics position themselves in an area underpinned by the relevance of the life experience of disability.
