ABSTRACT

In the chapter on Bangladesh, Mamta B Chowdhury (Western Sydney University) assesses the overall economic response to COVID. While there was initial criticism of the government’s slow start, by the end of 2021, Chowdhury argues the support packages had worked well. The chapter focuses on the impact of COVID-19 on the Bangladesh economy, with a particular focus on migrant workers and the flow of remittances to the country, the second-largest source of foreign exchange earnings for Bangladesh after income from ready-made-garments.
