ABSTRACT

Children with special needs (CWSNs) are already a vulnerable section among children. When they are from a scheduled caste (SC) community, one can imagine the possible life struggle for the child and the family. Experiencing injustice and deprivation based on caste discrimination is not a new phenomenon in Indian society. People are still deprived and discriminated against just because of their caste-based identity. The study is focused on understanding the challenges encountered by the CWSNs belonging to the SC community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using the concept of intersectionality the chapter explores the discrimination and challenges faced by the CWSN from SC community. The study is conducted in the Biswanath District of Assam following the qualitative approach. For the study, data collection is done through the face-to-face interview method. Though the chapter aims to explore the challenges of CWSNs from the SC community during the COVID-19 pandemic, the chapter will also put forward the concluding remarks suggesting possible intervention in the future.
