ABSTRACT

Enforced disappearances have an important psychological impact both on individuals and on society in general. Such psychological impact affects both the disappeared person and other victims such as family members and other individuals and groups. The purpose of this chapter is to address the issue related to the psychological impact that enforced disappearance has on the disappeared persons, their relatives and loved ones, and on the community itself. It is based on the analysis of the various binding and non-binding norms of international human rights law.
