ABSTRACT

Students and educators are constantly developing and learning new ways to respond to their environments in schools. Learning is equal parts academic and social in nature, and therefore it is critical that the individual person and total school environment are facilitative of development. In this chapter, the Advocating Student-within-Environment (ASE) theory for school counseling is described as an approach to support students and educators as they develop in school contexts. Specific strategies for practice for personal development and systemic change are discussed.
