ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors discuss how a school counselor who adopts Advocating Student-within-Environment (ASE) theory conceptualizes and utilizes empirical data. A school counselor who is concerned with data and evidence draws from the most relevant and useful literature to inform practice decisions. From an ASE perspective, empirical evidence can be used to specify practice behaviors and support advocacy behaviors. Also in this chapter, the authors discuss a number of recent empirical studies pertaining to ASE interventions in schools. These studies can be used as examples for practicing school counselors to grow their comprehensive programs.
