ABSTRACT

In reiterating the phenomenological roots of Gestalt therapy, the author highlights the need for a comparison with recent developments of neurophenomenology. In the perspective of a relational and embodied mind, it is legitimate to grasp the neurobiological correlations of phenomenal reality, to promote a constant dialogue between psychotherapy and neurosciences, between “sciences of the spirit” and “sciences of nature”. Over the last few years a series of new acquisitions in various areas of knowledge (neuroscience, psychology, philosophy) push us to deepen and expand the phenomenological perspective that distinguishes the Gestalt approach. At the start of this century, a new almost “underlying” phenomenology of human relationships has emerged to which several disciplines and researchers, belonging to different guidelines, contribute. Gestalt therapy is called to discuss with this “underlying phenomenology” to get its vital stimuli and new generative paths.
