ABSTRACT
In Ethiopia, before 1974, religion and government were considered the same; from 1974 to 1991 the socialist government emphasised secularism, and, from 1991 onwards, the government declared 'religious freedom‘. Almost all Ethiopians belong to a religion; hence, in identity formation, religion is one of the primary identities of Ethiopia. Social work education and practice in Ethiopia need to consider the reality on the ground and integrate faith and spirituality into social work. This chapter examines how faith and spirituality are being accommodated in social work education and service provision by drawing on findings from a recent study. Data were collected through a survey completed by 144 graduate social workers and 12 interviews with social work educators and service providers in Ethiopia. The findings indicate that faith and spirituality are incorporated into social work education at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In social work practice, whilst many social workers integrate faith and spirituality, some organisations found it challenging to utilise faith and spirituality in their services. The chapter concludes by highlighting areas for further improvement in social work education and service provision.
ኢትዮጵያ ውስጥ ከ1966 ዓ.ም. አብዮት በፊት ሐይማኖትና መንግሥት እንደ አንድ ይቆጠሩ ነበር፡፡ ከ1966-1983 ዓ.ም የሶሻሊስት መንግስት ሴኩላሪዝምን አፅንዖት ሰጥቶ የነበረ ቢሆንም ከ1983ዓ.ም ጀምሮ መንግስት ‘የሐይማኖት ነፃነት’ አውጇል። ሁሉም ኢትዮጵያውያን ማለት ይቻላል የሐይማኖት ተከታዮች ናቸው፡፡ ስለዚህም በማንነት ምስረታ ሐይማኖት በመጀመሪያዎቹ ተርታ ከሚጠቀሱት የኢትዮጵያውያን ማንነቶች አንዱ ነው። በኢትዮጵያ ያለው የሶሻል ወርክ ትምህርት እና አገልግሎት መሬት ላይ ያለውን እውነታ በማጤን እምነት እና መንፈሳዊነትን ከሶሻል ወርክ ጋር ማቀናጀት ይኖርበታል። ይህ ምዕራፍ እምነት እና መንፈሳዊነት እንዴት በሶሻል ወርክ ትምህርት እና የአገልግሎት አቅርቦት ውስጥ እየተስተናገዱ እንደሆነ በቅርብ ጊዜ የተደረገ የጥናት ግኝቶችን በመመርኮዝ ይተነትናል። መረጃ የተሰበሰበው በኢትዮጵያ ውስጥ በናሙና የዳሰሳ ጥናት ከተካተቱ 144 የሶሻል ወርክ ምሩቃን እና ከ 12 ከሶሻል ወርክ መምህራን እና አገልግሎት ሰጪዎች ጋር በተደረጉ ቃለ-መጠይቆች ነው። የጥናቱ ግኝቶቹ እንደሚያመለክቱት እምነት እና መንፈሳዊነት በመጀመሪያ እና በድህረ ምረቃ ደረጃዎች በሶሻል ወርክ ትምህርት ውስጥ ተካተው እንደሚገኙ ያመለክታል፡፡ በሶሻል ወርክ አገልግሎት ውስጥ፣ ብዙ የሶሻል ወርክ ባለሙያዎች እምነት እና መንፈሳዊነትን ሲያዋህዱ፣ አንዳንድ ድርጅቶች እምነት እና መንፈሳዊነትን በአገልግሎታቸው ለመጠቀም ፈታኝ ሆኖ አግኝተውታል። በሶሻል ወርክ ትምህርት እና አገልግሎት አሰጣጥ ላይ ተጨማሪ መሻሻል ያለባቸውን ቦታዎች በማጉላት ይህ ምዕራፉ ይጠናቀቃል፡፡
