ABSTRACT

Most mental health graduate programs lack emphasis on entrepreneurship and the necessary steps needed in order to start, build, and grow a successful business. In most graduate programs, the focus is on gaining skills and techniques to become a great therapist. In the doctoral level the focus is on navigating becoming a professor and researcher. Upon graduation and licensing, some therapists who wish to become business owners often feel confused as to what the next steps are in starting a business as well as how to grow and maintain it to a point of sustainability. In recent years, mental health and business ownership is becoming more visible than it has in the past in literature, however there is still a gap as it relates to those who are seeking to become business owners. This chapter addresses entrepreneurship in sex therapy as well as addressing multiple business structures. Some useful insights are also included to aid current and upcoming therapists with tools to navigate entrepreneurship.
