ABSTRACT

Finding a balance between work and personal life is a challenge in every career, regardless of industry. Although public perception might suggest otherwise, higher education is by no means an exception (Connors, 2020). The flexibility of our schedules to engage in research and work from home gives the appearance that we might be able to obtain balance, but it also exacerbates the challenges. Living where we do much of our work makes stepping away from the job that much more difficult. We get pulled back into working when students email over the weekend or a paper looms in our thoughts. The challenge around balance that we face has become even more prominent during the COVID-19 pandemic (McDonald, 2021; Rinfret, McCandless, & Grewell, 2022; Yaghi, 2022).
