ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we document the implementation of Voices with Purpose, a case study of South–South collaboration supported by the fesmedia Africa of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) to strengthen local capacities in SBCC in sub-Saharan Africa. This initiative was developed based on a similar previous experience implemented in Latin America. In reflection on Voices with Purpose, we draw on key concepts central to the driving tenets of this book, including capacity building on communication from a decolonial perspective in a South–South dialogue, capacity building on communication, ecologies, and pluriverses, as well as communicative justice and capacity building on communication. Lastly, we also draw on the feedback provided by nine facilitators from several countries in Africa, who participated in Voices with Purpose, about their experience conducting training with social organisations over the past few years. In the end, we present some considerations on the generation of communication capacities in the framework of South–South cooperation from a decolonial perspective.
