ABSTRACT

This chapter investigates China-Israel relations from a Chinese perspective. It examines trends in the People’s Republic of China’s technological and infrastructure investment in Israel and shows how the robust expansion in both fields seems to be coming to a halt amid the aggravating US pressure on Israel. The initial signs analyzed indicate that Israel’s alignment with the US policies toward China is causing severe damage to China-Israel relations. Moreover, the deficiency of China’s soft power, especially during the country’s COVID-era closure to the outside world, creates favorable conditions for the United States to manufacture a negative image of China, which further discourages Israeli policymakers from continuing bilateral cooperation. The chapter concludes that China-Israel ties face strong headwinds generated by the United States.
