ABSTRACT

Tracing the ups and downs in Israel’s ties with India from their early years to the present day, this chapter emphasizes the relationship that has flourished since the early 1990s on multiple levels. Since then, India-Israel relations have revolved primarily around defense cooperation, and so long as the two countries face terrorism threats, security ties are expected to remain a significant part of the dialogue between them. At the same time, in recent years these ties have been upgraded to a strategic partnership, with mutually beneficial economic cooperation becoming another important pillar of the India-Israel connection. This chapter contends that as of the early 2020s, India should be considered one of Israel’s closest Asian allies.
