ABSTRACT

Feminism is not only a theory or a movement. It is a practice that shapes and transforms our personal and professional lives. This chapter explores how feminism has transformed and enriched our social work practice. We examine how ideas and actions have contributed to the social work struggle for justice for women in Australian society. We use the concept of “homemade” feminism to describe our local approaches to social work practice that are informed by our insider knowledge and relationships. Examples from the practice of the co-authors of this chapter illustrate how “home made” feminism has a central place in the social work struggle for gender-based equality and justice.
