ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses process models that are used to describe the process of translating research into routine practice and/or provide guidance to achieve a successful implementation process. Two types of process models are distinguished. Precursor-type process models focus primarily on understanding problems associated with the current way of working, identifying evidence-based practices to address these problems, understanding barriers and facilitators to implement these practices and selecting implementation strategies to address these barriers and facilitators. Planning-type process models assume that all this work has already been completed and focus on how to implement the practice in different settings.
