ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an overview of the history, development, and challenges of planning education in Indonesia. Several aspects of planning education in Indonesia are presented here including the nature, focus, development, and the roles of planning schools’ association. Further, internationalisation of planning education in Indonesia is presented to illustrate that at a young age, planning education in Indonesia continues to strive to improve its network and quality, in order to be able to play a role in various global urban issues. It is also explained in this chapter how the readiness of planning education in Indonesia in preparing young planners in the face of the millennial era, disruption, and innovation. At the end of this chapter, the challenges and directions of planning education in Indonesia are summarised, in order for planning education in Indonesia to make a contribution to ensuring sustainable urban transformation in Indonesia.
