ABSTRACT

In 2014, the University of Nicosia, Cyprus (UNIC), became the first university in the world that invested in blockchain education and research by launching the MSc in Digital Currency and hosting it within the School of Business. So far, over 1150 students graduated from this programme and around 110,000 from 120 counties attended its first course, which is offered for free as a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). The programme has since evolved, and, in 2021, a revised edition was accredited, and it is now offered to students in both e-learning and conventional modes of delivery. The revised edition of the programme is called “MSc in Blockchain and Digital Currency”. The programme has been successful, with most of its graduates finding a blockchain-related position during or after their graduation. This chapter shares insights and lessons learnt from this journey.
