ABSTRACT

The pandemic has given rise to an avalanche of perspectives that constantly destabilises a monolithic understanding of the world order. Since December 2019, the world has been witnessing unforeseen challenges of Covid-19 pandemic that is taking its toll on human lives, economy, and sense of belonging. The difference between essential and non-essential services and people associated with these services became glaring in the initial phase of the pandemic itself. People’s relationships with food and other essential commodities are shaped by personal and community histories, conditions of living, income, and psychological and social conditioning. Social media portals remain as living documents containing human impulses of hatred and compassion in these dire situations of survival. The pandemic has intervened and ruptured existing weaves of our social fabric. The narrative of touch is undergoing an unprecedented transformation since the transmission of the Covid-19 infection is based on human contact.
