ABSTRACT
This chapter describes and explains the processes of digestion and absorption along the digestive tract. Mechanical and chemical digestion are described with a focus on protein catabolism to amino acids, fat catabolism to fatty acids and glycerol, and carbohydrate catabolism to monosaccharides. Absorption through passive diffusion, facilitated diffusion and active transport of each macronutrient are discussed.
