ABSTRACT

“Esports is an area of sport activities in which people develop and train mental or physical abilities in the use of information and communication technologies”. Esports is born digital and born global, and for many businesses and organisations, this makes esports an extremely interesting proposition. When purchasing or building a desktop computer or laptop for the purpose of esports participation, particularly where there are budgetary constraints, considerations should be made for the intended esports title(s) and their operational requirements from a hardware perspective. Esports also relies heavily on data analytics technology. Teams use data analytics tools to analyse their opponents’ strategies and gameplay patterns to gain a competitive advantage over them. Coaches and other support staff in esports may have an important role in emphasising that technological devices and apps represent a useful resource to aid understanding of performance, but do not represent all facets of performance nor the (complex) interplay between them.
