ABSTRACT

We are in an exciting new era of esports, with seemingly boundless opportunities for players, practitioners, and researchers. The uptake of esports as a potential career path is rapidly growing, with interest being fostered at a grassroots level. The increase in professional and amateur player-base has attracted coaches, performance and health practitioners, sponsorship, the formation of new and exciting leagues, and an abundance of research opportunities to support e’athletes and continue the positive advancement of the industry. This book has covered a range of topics within esports, from coaching and the environment of esports, to physiological and nutritional health and performance, to psychology and esports technology. Within its chapters researcher and practitioner’ knowledge has helped define our understanding of some of the key topic areas of interest for e’athletes and coaches, from grassroots to the world stage. We are still at an early stage of understanding the global phenomenon of esports; however, we hope this book has given some valuable insights into the depth of the esports industry, environment, and e’athlete’s performance and health.
