ABSTRACT

E-athletes performance, like in any traditional sport, may be improved through considerations of physiological adaptations to performance- and health-specific exercise and training. Neurocognitive, cardiovascular, endocrinological, metabolic, and musculoskeletal system synergy and responses to exercise training and adaptations for performance, should be understood by e-athletes and their coaches. Through this understanding, the coach can design an evidence-based training structure (programming), monitor the e-athlete’s fatigue, workload, and well-being, and initiate appropriate protocols for e-athletes’ injury rehabilitation when needed. This chapter discusses key physiological adaptations to exercise and esports training, as they relate to performance, fatigue resilience, and injury prevention.
