ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the different settings in which players compete, from online teams to on-stage tournaments, and discusses some of the advantages and challenges associated with them. The means of communication available to teams, both within the games themselves and through digital platforms such as Discord, are discussed, along with the challenges faced by teams that train and compete solely online. This chapter also addresses some of the challenges and pressures experienced by players during in-person events, and shares some tips to ensure that players are prepared for competition in such situations. Finally, the chapter briefly explores the competitive structure and how this may impact the performance and well-being of players.
