ABSTRACT

Informed design begins with research and analysis of various factors that can potentially impact a final project. Designers often consider elements that can be reused and materials that can be adapted. Exterior inspired multisensory design has the ability to connect deeply to users, linking to both hearts and memories. Interior design has long been connected with the exterior environment, particularly in the research of biophilic principles that emphasize the strong connection individuals have to the natural world. Interior designers are not typically involved in the siting of the building, so some leniency was given in this particular exercise. The multisensory design solutions and physical interactions fascinated the jurors, as they unscrewed caps, squeezed spray bottles, and opened small packages, wondering what sensorial pleasures awaited them.
