ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book argues that preconceived notions of site should not be strictly reduced to that of the ground with defined metes and boundaries. It steps beyond the visual by way of employing phenomenological analysis of the exterior environment to produce richer multisensory interior design solutions. The book explores using a skills-based approach to teach the history of design with an aim to disrupt notions of the ‘West’ versus the ‘other’. It suggests a new taxonomy for site born from reflection and experimentation. The book encourages students to formulate a conscientious commitment to values and ethical stances at various levels of the design process.
