ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I will discuss two different projects that people of faith have created to help care for marine animals who are suffering due to human-caused pollution such as plastic debris, oil, and tainted runoff water. One project, the Blue Theology Mission Station, is based in Christian theology, while the other, Tikkun HaYam (Repair the Sea) and its Water Torah, draws on Jewish traditions. Both projects pair firsthand personal experience with religious reflection to both educate participants about the problems ocean animals face, and share what people of faith and others can do to help.
