ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the exciting and fast-growing body of literature looking at the intersections of critical disability studies and critical animal studies. Together, these fields explore the idea that the forms of oppression experienced by disabled people (ableism) and other than human animals (speciesism) are highly interconnected. Both fields have lessons to teach one another. We share some real-world examples to illustrate some of the most compelling debates between disability and animal activists and scholars and opportunities for further exploration.
