ABSTRACT

The pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) has resulted in severe global social and economic disruption. The pandemic has raised issues of racial and geographic discrimination, health equity, and the balance between public health imperatives and individual rights. All four quarters of the world are facing the devastating impacts of the pandemic, and women in science are in the front lines of response. Women researchers have been at the forefront of the fight against Covid-19, with female scientists across the globe playing pivotal roles, from advancing knowledge on the virus, to developing vaccines, treating patients and assessing the pandemic’s devastating economic and social impact. Many exemplary women who are dedicated to the cause of liberating the humankind from the clutches of the virus are under immense stress. This paper presents an overview of the contributions and challenges faced by women researchers during pandemic Covid-19.
