ABSTRACT

When one has brought a suffering child into existence, it makes sense to regret having brought that child into existence – and to regret it for the sake of that child. Skott Brill’s thoughtful paper is devoted to a critical discussion of the analogy of Sick and Healthy. Professor Brill’s central argument hinges on the specific interpretation he has of intrinsic value. The potential suicide also has to consider those who are left behind – bereaved family members and friends. Mr McGregor and Ms Sullivan-Bissett also take issue with the argument that we should apply different standards to determining when a life is worth beginning and when it is worth continuing.
