ABSTRACT

War and terrorism as the eminent phenomena of conflict structurally share common grounds. Transnational terrorism has gradually evolved and even more tremendously flourished in the era of globalization. Some of the world-leading scholars in the field of terrorism studies and other relevant disciplines elaborate on recent phenomena and key trends that will very likely shape the character of transnational extremist violence. Both the manifold strategies of terrorism as well as the instrumental dimension of terrorism as a strategy are addressed. Technology and particularly virtualization is the most effective driver of terrorism and counter-terrorism. Given the very recent dramatic rise of right-wing-extremism on both sides of the Atlantic and elsewhere, the ongoing emergence of stochastic terrorism is a defining tactical pattern. Against the backdrop of theoretical conclusions, experts seek to distill fundamental, maybe paradigmatic shifts in terms of terrorist strategies and tactics.
