ABSTRACT

There is a long history of South Asian migration to the United Kingdom. Various reasons have contributed to migration, and for Sri Lanka, the unstable socio-political arena can be seen as a major contributor to Sri Lankan migration to the United Kingdom. The chapter, while examining the migration trends from Sri Lanka to the United Kingdom in the post-independence era, tries to provide a literary perspective on migration through an analysis of the novels of Sri Lankan born British author, Romesh Gunesekera. The chapter examines how Gunesekera engages with the diasporic imagination through his writings.
