ABSTRACT

MapLab, a newsletter published by Bloomberg CityLab, was launched in 2017. It explores the world of mapping and how it intersects with the news for an audience of designers, architects, mapmakers and other people interested in cartography and datavisual graphics. It is unique within the U.S. news media landscape, covering mapping in several ways: as an industry, as a powerful shaper of news consumption and geographic understanding and as an artform that illuminates human experience. In this interview, Bloomberg journalists Laura Bliss and Marie Patino discuss the newsletter, its objectives, offshoot projects and the readers it has brought together.
