ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is neither to provide a history of screen tourism nor to discuss the many motivators that combine to create this form of travel, for this is covered very eloquently by the other contributors. The aim is to provide an insight from someone who has been not only a long-standing screen tourism enthusiast but also a professional in the screen tourism industry, for projects – both small scale and large scale – across five continents; the author has been a professional photographer for over 40 years. On the audience side, he is a film location guide writer, and was Media and Communications Manager for Hobbiton Movie Set Tours, the co-lead of an augmented reality company, and the founding director of the New Zealand Fighter Pilots Museum.
