ABSTRACT

Understanding of health-seeking behaviour is vital and has been studied by geographers in the framework of socio-economic and cultural dimensions. Cultural aspects play an important role in the health-seeking behaviour as variables like ethnicity, cultural traits, cultural regions, language, religion and economic aspects have witnessed different health-seeking behaviour. This study was an attempt to study the health-seeking behaviour among the Hanjis – an ethnic group of population inhabiting Dal Lake. The main focus of the study was on different aspects of health-seeking behaviour like perception of disease, management of health problems, utilization of medical system, and preference of same in relation with socio-economic setup. Suggestions have been made for the improvement of health in this ethnic group.
