ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the study between historical and contemporary scenario of environmental perspective of health and disease, which is an enthralling area of research, and highlights the pattern of environmental conditions, people’s adjustment with the environment and people’s mobility, and the occurrence of health problems as a result of man’s interaction with the environment. During the past 160 years, in Kashmir and Ladakh, contributing factors that have shaped the modern public health system include missionary doctors and spread of education. This chapter argues the importance of such regional studies in understanding of environment associated ailments.
